Loved Every Minute
14 February 2013
We visited the Agama Tented Camp on the off-season, knowing full-well that we would not see the flowers for which the Namaqualand region is famous. Several South Africans had said we were insane to go north in February, the hottest month. What a pleasant surprise! The camp was totally ours!... we were the ONLY guests! Our hostess, Linda, was amazing! It was Valentine's Day and she lit up the entire dining room with lanterns, every empty table was lit up, making it a most romantic room. She played wonderful, "oldies" music for us and cooked the most incredible meal of roast lamb, chicken and plenty of vegetables... a feast fit for many, not just we two! Our dessert was malva pudding, which my husband devoured with kudos. I am gluten-intolerant, so Linda presented me with fruit cocktail and custard, a most pleasant surprise. Prior to dinner, Victor lit the boma and we sat under the stars chatting with a glass of wine, which we had brought with us. The camp's attendant, Evans, was most cordial and attentive, bringing us tea to our tent upon arrival and again in the morning. It was a bit chilly to use the pool while we were there, but it looks like the renovation Linda and Victor are doing to the premises, in and around the pool area, will make it all even more attractive and romantic. We had THE BEST night's sleep on our entire 3-week vacation in South Africa. Sleeping in the tent was most relaxing, with the freshest air anywhere... and a full, king-sized bed with luxurious bedding. Because the camp is in a valley in a fairly mountainous region, the air was quite chilly at night, making it most comfortable for sleeping. The shower in the morning was a fun experience, too, showering semi-outdoors, yet in the privacy of our own tent. And, once again, Linda spoiled us with a divine breakfast. We were sorry we hadn't booked another night and were sad to say goodbye to Linda and Victor, two of the loveliest people on our journey. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
